Who Are We
The Society was started in March 1995, as
the Old Duke Jazz Society, in response to -the overwhelming support given to the
campaign to save Jazz at the Old Duke. This demonstrated the popularity of live
jazz in the Bristol area and the need for jazz fans to keep in touch with the
local 'scene'. The name was changed to reflect the fact that the Society is
involved in promoting and supporting jazz throughout the Bristol area and
beyond! We intend in the future to foster young musicians and schools, and
encourage them to play instruments and learn more about music - especially Jazz!
We charge only a very small annual fee of £4 per member (£6 for two people at
the same address) to cover costs such as paper & postage, as we want The
Society to be open to as many people as possible.
