Latin-jazz at El Puerto every Wednesday

The latin-jazz thang is going great at El Puerto on Prince Street in Bristol (7.30pm to 10pm every Wednesday) - we've got a different trio or quartet every week and this year there's been some brilliant musicians with me including Greg Cordez, Valere Speranza, Jon Short, Dale Hambridge, Andy Christie, John Martin, John Lambert, Anders Ollinder, Andy Kinsman, Gary Alesbrook, Walter Dirks, Lisa Cherian, Greg White & many more - it was great to have Andy Kinsman and Gary Alesbrook there just prior to their recording session with Noel Gallagher, a real treat for everyone.  Come down and get a beer and some great Spanish food.

I've also started a series of interviews with musicians which are available on YouTube and at www.6withnick.co.uk - they include jazz vocalist of the year, Claire Martin, along with Andy Kinsman, saxophonist and painter, and James Morton saxophonist with a new album out - there is also a 6withNick facebook page.

Late Notes Jazz

Andy Sheppard
and Jean-Louis Matinier

"Saxophonist Andy Sheppard returns to St George's as our artist in residence for the next three seasons. His first concert in a series that will include collaborations with Arild Andersen, Michel Benita and Seb Rochford as well as a January quartet date inspired by John Coltrane's famous 'Ballads' album, is the debut of a new duo with the acclaimed Parisian accordionist Jean-Louis Matinier, who is a regular member of the celebrated ensemble led by the Tunisian oud player Anouar Brahem. Matinier also performs with Louis Sclavis, Renaud Garcia-Fons and Gianluigi Trovesi. Now a major international star, Andy needs to no introduction to Bristol audiences, but over the years his occasional series of intimate duos at St George's has become one of the city's greatest musical treats."
